What Farmco Recommends It For:

Farmco recommends Coopers Trifecta for treating and controlling roundworms in sheep, and in beef and dairy cattle. It’s a strong choice where drench resistance is a concern: in sheep it controls worms resistant to ML, BZ or LEV drench families, and in cattle it controls ML-resistant worms. The added selenium and cobalt help where pastures run low in these trace elements.

Trifecta combines three actives from three different drench families in one oral dose. A worm has to survive all three to get through, which helps slow resistance and protect your drenching program. One drench treats both sheep and cattle at the same simple rate of 1mL per 10kg.

Three Actives, One Dose

Trifecta contains abamectin (macrocyclic lactone), oxfendazole (benzimidazole or “white”) and levamisole (clear). Each active hits worms in a different way, so Trifecta controls roundworms that are sensitive to at least one of the three.

Broad-Spectrum Worm Control

Trifecta targets the major adult gut roundworms in sheep and cattle, including Barber’s Pole Worm, Small Brown Stomach Worm, Black Scour Worm, Small Intestinal Worm, Thin Necked Intestinal Worm, Hookworm and Nodule Worm. In sheep, it also controls Black Scour Worm resistant to a benzimidazole and levamisole combination.

Added Selenium and Cobalt

Each litre carries 1g selenium and 5g cobalt to supplement diets that may be lacking these trace elements. That’s useful in many Australian grazing regions.

Simple Dosing

Dose orally at 1mL per 10kg bodyweight. Weigh the heaviest animal and dose the group to that weight. In cattle, draft into lines if weights vary widely. Shake well before use, and check your drench gun is accurate before and during drenching.

Administration:

- Draft cattle into lines where weights vary widely, to avoid excessive overdosing
- Clean equipment before and after use, and check accuracy before and during drenching
Re-treatment interval: Don’t re-treat within 28 days of the last treatment
Withholding periods:
- Meat (sheep and cattle): Don’t use less than 21 days before slaughter for human consumption
- Milk (sheep): Don’t use in ewes producing, or that may in future produce, milk for human consumption
- Milk (cattle): Don’t use in lactating cows or within 28 days of calving where milk is used for human consumption. If cows calve earlier than 28 days after treatment, don’t use the milk for human consumption or processing for at least 28 days after treatment. Calves fed this milk shouldn’t be slaughtered for human consumption within 21 days.

Restraints and contraindications:
- Don’t use in lambs 15kg or less or under 6 weeks of age
- Don’t use in calves 100kg or less or under 16 weeks of age
- Don’t use when selenium intake from pasture is high, or when selenium is supplied by other means (top dressing, vaccines, pellets or selenium drenches) and blood selenium levels are high. Check selenium status with your vet.
Precautions:
- Handle weak, pregnant and young animals carefully to avoid stress
- Avoid yarding animals off-feed overnight, and give yarded animals access to water before drenching
- Don’t exceed the recommended dose
- Selenium can be toxic, especially to animals with liver damage, including stock grazing pastures with pyrrolizidine alkaloid plants
- Safety in breeding animals of either sex and in pregnant or lactating cows and ewes hasn’t been established
Resistance: Resistance may develop to any drench. A drench resistance test is advisable before use.
Safety: Poison. Keep out of reach of children. For animal treatment only. Poisonous if swallowed and harmful if inhaled. May irritate the eyes and skin. Wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist and elbow-length chemical-resistant gloves. Wash hands after use. If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26.
Environment: Very toxic to aquatic life. Don’t contaminate dams, rivers, streams or other waterways with the chemical or used containers.
Disposal: Triple-rinse containers and dispose of rinsate according to local regulations. Clean, dry containers with the drumMUSTER logo can be recycled through drumMUSTER.
Storage: Store below 30°C in the closed original container, in a well-ventilated area. Protect from light.
