Maximise Your Water Supply with Rainwater Tank Storage

Farmers throughout Australia all want to maximise their water supply and actively seek it from as many different water supply options as possible to reduce overall costs. Throughout this blog we’re going to discuss the benefits of utilising rainwater and discuss various tank storage options.

How Much Rainwater Can Be Collected?

A large shed where you house your large farming machinery or vehicles not only protects them from the elements, but provides a great opportunity to harvest rainwater. Calculating the harvesting capacity of a shed or building is easy, by simply multiplying the size of your shed roof in square metres by the average annual rainfall on your farm. For instance, a 2,000 square metre shed in a 300mm rainfall area should collect 600,000 litres of rainfall per year, providing there are no extremely light rainfall events during the year and no leaks in your shed gutters.

Enhanced Crop and Livestock Health

Providing rainwater, which is naturally free of chemicals or additives, to your crops and livestock can contribute to better health outcomes. Crops often respond well to rainwater due to its balanced pH and absence of salts or chlorine found in some municipal water supplies. Your livestock may also prefer rainwater due to its freshness and natural qualities.

Coerco Water Tanks

FarmCo are partnered with Coerco for their quality water tanks and offer their full range of West Australian produced tanks. Coerco are offering $500 off the RRP of their 22,500 litre corrugated tanks until the 31st July 2024 and all Coerco water tanks 9,000 litres or larger include free delivery to property.

Coerco tanks are made at their large production facility in Dalwallinu and meet both Australia Standard and New Zealand Standard 4020 for drinking water and Australia Standard and New Zealand Standard 2070 for food contact use. They come in the full range of standard Colorbond colours, are UV stabilised, are moulded in one piece, and come with a 20-year repair or replacement warranty.

Unlike dams, tanks of course allow water to be stored without evaporation loss. Coerco tanks are manufactured up to 40% thicker than the industry standard, which eradicates any possibility of light transfer and algal growth within the tank.

Coerco Installation and Supply

Coerco tanks are lightweight, making the installation process easy. Simply place them on a 100mm thick compacted gravel base (or similar), that extends beyond the diameter of the tank by 600mm to ensure that it isn’t eaten away by rain or wind. Coerco work on a four-week delivery time frame for all their tanks, so if you’re looking to purchase one, you will need to bear this in mind.

Corrugated vs. Flatwalled Tanks

Whether you choose a corrugated or flatwalled tank is primarily about the style and look that you prefer. The only difference is that flatwalled tanks have a more modern appearance and are generally made in a larger size. Coerco’s flatwalled tanks start at 5,300 litres and their largest 50,000 litre tank only available as a flatwalled tank. However, corrugated tanks are still available as large as 32,000 litres.

Sustainability Initiatives

Coerco is committed to sustainability practices, ensuring that no plastic waste from their manufacturing processes ends up in landfills. Any tanks not meeting quality standards are recycled into other useful products like septic tanks and underground storage tanks.

Tough Tub Troughs & Fittings

Coerco’s tough tub troughs are very popular, ranging in size from 250 litres to 2,500 litres. At FarmCo, we handle Coerco cup and saucer tanks as well as troughs, plus anything else you might need to connect your tanks and troughs, including Plasson compression fittings, and can assist you with Coerco diesel storage tanks, fire fighting units, and cartage tanks in a range of sizes.
